The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Wal-Mart Stores or Fed Comments
Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- Reduced same-store sales from Wal-Mart Stores (WMT)....
- Some very interesting comments from Todd Harrison of Minyanville which end by saying "With the bullish bent being broadcast from every available media orifice, further gains likely won't catch investors by surprise..."
- Upbeat comments on the next three months as it is said "Should history repeat itself—and there's no guarantee it will—the S&P 500 will likely record a handsome return this quarter with the economically sensitive issues leading the way..."
- Upbeat comments [subscription required] on tech as it is said "attention this time of year quickly turns to technology in the fourth quarter. That's because shares of technology generally beat the market in the last three months of the year..."
- A report that says "The housing market will get worse before it gets better..."
- Employment data from ADP with some comments about Friday's monthly employment report...
- New liquefied natural gas terminals...
- Also, be on the lookout for Fed chatter as Ben Bernanke, Donald Kohn, Susan Bies, and Timothy Geithner are making the rounds...
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is in fact the new high for the DJIA. I know - I know...you think I am a hypocrite after dismissing it here and here and here and here and here...But - hear me out as I have been convinced and have a new perspective...
Earlier this morning I saw an interview with the editor of the Dow Jones Indices and he said it matter - so there you have it. Clearly he should have the most objective opinion. On a side note, later on today my mother will be offering a guest commentary on why I am the best blogger in the whole entire universe...
