The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not CPI, Housing Starts, Countrywide, Morgan or Rate Cuts
Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- Data on inflation from the CPI which came in as expected...
- Data on housing starts which showed "another sign of the weak U.S. housing market"...
- A report that says Goldman Sachs (GS) "won't bail out its embattled flagship Global Alpha hedge fund"...
- A disappointing earnings report from Morgan Stanley (MS)...
- Upbeat comments from Angelo Mozilo, the CEO of Countrywide Financial (CFC), about his firm...
- A recap of yesterday's Fed move to cut the fed funds rate and the discount rate by half a point...
- A recap of yesterday's Fed move to cut the fed funds rate and the discount rate by half a point...
- A recap of yesterday's Fed move to cut the fed funds rate and the discount rate by half a point...
- A recap of yesterday's Fed move to cut the fed funds rate and the discount rate by half a point...
- A recap of yesterday's Fed move to cut the fed funds rate and the discount rate by half a point...
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story one of these three -
- Public to decide fate of 756th home run ball - "The man who bought Barry Bonds's 756th home run ball for more than $750,000 is letting the public decide its final resting place"...(thanks to Mark Fightmaster for passing this one along)...
- Broker accused of 'spin rage' at gym..."A Wall Street stock broker has been charged with assault" after he "apparently became so fed up by member Stuart Sugarman's hooting and grunting during the workout that he picked up Sugarman and his bike and hurled them into a wall"...
- EBay stops sale of Belgium "Internet auction website eBay on Monday withdrew an unusual second-hand sale item, the country of Belgium"...
Yes that correct - you get to vote on 756th home run ball and Belgium is no longer for sale - I repeat - Belgium is no longer for sale - put your wallets away...(uh...anyone have any birthday ideas for what I can get my wife now?)
And as far as the whole spin rage thing, I think there is something seriously wrong with the entire situation. At first I thought there was a clear aggressor and victim but make sure you read the line that says the assaulted man "was enjoying the 'euphoric experience' of cycling and was making noises to increase his high"...What?!?!?
If you were ever looking for an excuse not to go join a gym, the mere thought of a 200 pound man grunting to increase his "euphoric experience" is more than enough reason. I know working out is good for you but the risk of that sight just isn't worth it...
