The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not GDP, Microsoft, or Sun Microsystems

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • Details on Microsoft's (MSFT) earnings report...
  • Better-than-expected earnings from Sun Microsystems (SUNW)...
  • A weak-than-expected GDP that showed growth slowed to its lowest level in more than three years...
  • Upbeat comments about the economy as it is said - "Real estate and home building are struggling but most other sectors seem set to ride out the storm..."
  • Better-than-expected earnings from McAfee Inc. (MFE)...
  • Some upbeat comments [subscription required] on Dell as it is said - "Even if it takes a few years for the Dell portrait to gain in beauty, the stock itself could turn around much quicker if investors feel the worst part of the story is over..."
  • Optimism on the technology sector as it is said that "tech's run most probably will last many years...."
  • Some interesting comments on the housing picture and durable goods report...
  • Some interesting comments from Herb Greenberg on Panera (PNRA) and Netflix (NFLX)...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is - Heavier drivers seen using more gasoline...aside from the disturbing picture featured in the article, I think this is the biggest story because it suggests what the investments of the future are - McDonald's (MCD) and Exxon Mobil (XOM)...it is the perfect lethargy play!
