The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Durable Goods Orders Or Warnings from Nokia and Palm

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • A drop in durable goods orders...this was the largest drop since 2000 and is "raising concerns about a weakening of the U.S. economy"...
  • A warning from Nokia (NOK) that growth will be slower than expected next year...
  • A warning from Palm Inc. (PALM) that second-quarter results won't hit expectations...
  • A search for reasons behind yesterday's selloff...
  • Another take on yesterday's drop...
  • Upbeat comments on Microchip Technology (MCHP)...
  • Details behind yesterday's announcement that the Supreme Court rejected an appeal from smokers to revive litigation against Altria Group (MO)...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - A Smarter Computer to Pick Stocks...come on people, I know I have said this before but hasn't anyone seen the movie The Terminator???...this is how it starts...

"The system goes on-line August 4th, 1997. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug...""
