The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Satellite Radio Merger or Earnings from Wal-Mart or Home Depot

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • The proposed merger of Sirius Satellite Radio (SIRI) and XM Satellite Radio (XMSR)...
  • Earnings from Wal-Mart Stores (WMT)...the firm posted better-than-expected earnings, but lower-than-expected sales... the shares are showing slight strength in the pre-open market...
  • Earnings from Home Depot (HD)...the home improvement retailer reported lackluster results and the shares are showing slight weakness in the pre-open market...
  • Continued fallout from JetBlue's (JBLU) stranding fiasco...
  • Work that Vulcan Materials (VMC) is buying Florida Rock Industries (FRK)...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story, coming from my colleague Joe Hargett, is this - China death sentence for ant scam... according to the article "A Chinese man has been sentenced to death for conning people out of 3 billion yuan ($387 million) in a giant scam to breed ants"...it is said that the man "sold packages of ants to the investors for up to as much as 10,000 yuan ($1,290) when they were only worth 200 yuan"...

I thought you only saw that kind of mark-ups on bottled water...
