The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Subprime Mortgage Lenders, Mini-Y2K, or RIMM Restatement

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • More concerns about subprime mortgage lenders as New Century (NEW) says "prosecutors have opened a criminal probe into trading in its securities"...
  • Weakness in Japan that is said to weighing on the market here...the Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost more than three percent amid concerns including a "rapid appreciation of the yen"...
  • The need for a restatement by Research In Motion (RIMM)...the BlackBerry maker "said it anticipates taking a $250 million charge after having mispriced the bulk of the stock-option grants awarded in the last decade"...
  • A look into some of the innovations that "have made it possible to unlock more oil from old fields"...
  • The technology headaches caused by daylight saving time going into effect three weeks earlier...the situation is being called a "mini-Y2K"...
  • Comments about the drop in oil...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is ...well, I guess, sort of, this - Swiss army oversteps mark with midnight foray into Liechtenstein...it would seem that the usually serene Swiss army launched an "accidental" invasion into its friendly neighbor blaming the incident on "darkness" during night-time maneuvers...who would have thunk-it, darkness at night?...the article also noted this isn't the first "incident" as the Swiss once "accidentally" bombed Liechtenstein saying "the wind" blew their rockets off course...

P.S. You may have noticed my hesitation about the story above and that is because I had originally intended it to be - Building a better beer glass - but Mark "The Thunder-Stealer" Fightmaster decided to post this on Friday afternoon...developing the perfect beer glass for drinking Sam Adams Boston lager, that is big news!
