The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Apple's Earnings or $4 Gasoline

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • Better-than-expected earnings from Apple (APPL)...as I noted earlier - Apple reported earnings of 87 cents per share, which topped estimates from Thomson Financial of 64 cents. Shares of the iPod and Mac maker popped to a new all-time high in after-hours trading yesterday. This morning they are indicated up more than seven percent, which put them near 102...
  • A warning that "Gasoline prices, already above $3 a gallon in some states, could charge higher this summer and hit $4 a gallon in some locations"...
  • Earnings from Exxon Mobil (XOM)...
  • Earnings from 3M (MMM)...
  • A look into "Dow 13,000"...
  • Another look into "Dow 13,000"...
  • Commentary on Amazon.com's (AMZN) surge yesterday...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Head start: Scientists crack beer-froth enigma...according to the article, "Writing in the prestigious British science journal Nature, an elite scientific duo say they have devised an equation to describe beer froth"...it is said that this "breakthrough" (the article's words) "will not only settle the vexatious lager vs. stout debate, it will also help the quest to pour a perfect pint every time"...

My first reaction to this (after daydreaming about always getting the perfect pint) was to mock this as there are at least a couple of bigger problems to solve...as the article itself notes...but then I remembered those scientists who kept getting outsmarted by the great ape that "promised" to stop pulling fire alarms...now the "beer scientists" seem like geniuses...
