The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Citigroup Write Down, PetroChina, IAC/Interactive, or Gisele Dollar Snub

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • The record set by PetroChina (PTR) as the first company to be worth more than $1 trillion ...
  • The announcement out of Citigroup (C) of an $11 billion write-down and the "retirement" of CEO Charles Prince...
  • The plan from IAC/Interactive Corp. (IACI) to split five companies...
  • Earnings from Marvel Entertainment (MVL)...
  • The acquisition of EqualLogic by Dell (DELL)...
  • Word that supermodel Gisele Bundchen "is insisting that she be paid in almost any currency but the U.S. dollar"...
  • A strike by Hollywood writers...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest future story is going to come from the pairing of these two articles -

So...we have the story of a driver who followed the directions of his satellite navigation system and got stuck and the story of a race that is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense, "which wants robots eventually to drive military supply vehicles". And this follows other articles we have discussed, such as Obedient motorist crashes on satnav command and Obedient driver follows orders, crashes car.

I don't know what the "future" story alluded to above is going to look like but it should be chock full of comedic blunders followed by the mandatory "who would have thought it could go wrong.
