The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Garmin and NAVTEQ, Starbucks, Cisco, Google, or Victoria's Secret and the Spice Girls

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • The announcement that Garmin (GRMN) has signed a long-term contract with NAVTEQ....[note - more thoughts on this can be found below...]
  • Word that Garmin "withdrew its 2.3 billion-euro ($3.4 billion) offer for Tele Atlas NV,"...
  • A lowered forecast from Starbucks (SBUX)...
  • Worries about of stagflation...albeit a potentially "gentler version"...
  • Buyback buzz from Cisco Systems (CSCO)...
  • Speculation that Google Inc (GOOG) "may be preparing to bid on wireless spectrum at a Federal Communications Commission auction in January"...
  • Expectations for a pullback in consumer spending as it is said "The long-awaited, long-feared consumer crunch may finally be here"...
  • A look into Limited Brands (LTD) as their Victoria's Secret division is "reaching back about a decade to bring the all-girl group Spice Girls back to the stage"...
  • Optimism on Google (GOOG) as the recent pullback is viewed a buying opportunity...
  • Earnings from Ann Taylor Stores (ANN)...
  • A look [subscription required] in the challenges that John Thain faces at Merrill Lynch & Co. (MER)...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - 'Orangutan' every which way but loose in Baker...according to the article, "An orangutan sighting has Baker County residents going ape and now Fish and Wildlife officials are hoping to lure the animal out the trees using a secret weapon: doughnuts"..."Some think it's just a spider monkey or a squirrel. Others are seriously investigating whether it was a 'baby Bigfoot'"...

If you live in Baker County, please be aware of this - there could a large squirrel in the woods... or a "baby Bigfoot'...or an orangutan...or some sort of animal that has fur and can climb trees...

Okay, okay, okay - as someone who recently found out that my home-state of Ohio is apparently a leader in Bigfoot sightings (and cheap vodka consumption), I know that Bigfoot is no joking matter. It is scary to think "he" could be lurking just behind you...

Just be safe people, don't keep doughnuts around you...
