The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not McDonald's vs. Starbucks, Citigroup or Recession Fears

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • A supposed challenge to Starbucks (SBUX) as it is said that McDonald's (MCD) is making "a full-fledged push into the high-end coffee business"...
  • The belief by economists that a recession is a "given"...
  • Concerns that more banks will be forced to cut their dividends...
  • Optimism on Citigroup (C) as it is said "buried underneath all this negative news is an awfully attractive stock"...
  • A look into oil as the $200-strike options become more popular...
  • Comments from Jim Rogers who says "It's going to be one of the worst recessions we've had in a while"...
  • Speculation "President Bush may propose new measures to boost the economy by the time he gives his State of the Union"...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - GM envisions driverless cars on horizon...according to the article, "Cars that drive themselves — even parking at their destination — could be ready for sale within a decade, General Motors Corp. executives say"..."This is not science fiction"...

Why is this the biggest news? Because it follows Friday's article that discussed how people keep getting into trouble by explicitly following the directions of GPS units.
