The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Cisco
The following is a repost from my blog on Schaeffer's...
As usual I have been scanning the wires and headlines looking for that one story that deserves the honor of being the called the biggest story of the day...that one story that is out there in the back of everyone's mind, but isn't getting the attention it deserves...
We have a few contenders today, such as...
-
the better-than-expected numbers from Cisco Systems (CSCO) that has the shares bid up eight percent
- disappointing comments from Toll Brothers (TOL) that say there is an "oversupply of houses for sale and a fall-off in buyer confidence"
- and, of course, the ramifications of yesterday's FOMC decision that has some saying - "Stagflation, anyone?"
While those are definitely worth noting, they can't compare to this story from yesterday which says that a research team has "turned up surprising evidence that our large and ancient universe may be even bigger and older than previously thought."
While Toll Brothers may be citing some concerns about the domestic housing market, the rest of the universe just found out there may be more supply on the market that thought. That can't be good stellar sales, not to mention the added gas it is going to take to reach the end of the universe now. But aside from the logistics, this carries an emotional impact that could weigh on people's minds. As a child I was told all throughout school that the Earth was just a small part of a larger universe. Now that the universe it bigger, does that mean we are all relatively smaller?
