The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Four Seasons, Google, or Dow 13,000
Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- This week's cover story [subscription required] from Barron's that talks about Dow 13,000 and says "More than a third of the institutional investors responding to the latest Big Money poll expect the market's bellwether average to reach or surpass that big, round number by the middle of 2007"...
- A buyout offer for Four Seasons Hotels (FS)...
- A plan by Google (GOOG) to delve into print advertisements...
- News that Merrill Lynch's private equity arm is involved in a probe by the Justice Department...
- An agreement by Kos Pharmaceuticals (KOSP) to be bought by Abbott Laboratories (ABT)...
- A buyout offer for Swift Transportation (SWFT)...
- Word that Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) will be dropping prices on electronics products in order to try to boost holiday demand...
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Candid camera at the fast-food drive-thru...apparently companies are now working on "outsourcing" some of the drive-thru duties at fast food restaurants...aside from the whole creepy-taking-your-picture-thing, is just me or does this seem like a wildly, needlessly complicated plan?...instead of just talking to the person who is right there, my order is going to get routed to who knows where before finding its way back to the window 10 feet from my car?...yeah, I can't wait until I am told my order can't be processed because the overseas call center is down...
