The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Vista, Weekly Jobless Claims, or Retail Sales
Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- The weekly jobless claims data that showed filings for unemployment benefits hit its highest point in a year...
- Some details behind the some of the retail sales figures...
- The release of Microsoft's (MSFT) new operating system, Vista, which is said "is being greeted with a collective yawn"...
- Details behind Wal-Mart's (WMT) sales figures...
- Concerns about the recent plunge in the dollar and the view that many see "a weaker dollar in the months to come thanks to a combination of slower economic growth, the possibility of interest rate cuts from the Federal Reserve and long-term trends in international currency markets"...
- Some upbeat comments on large-cap stocks as it is said "Large-cap growth could be one of the better performing areas of the market for the next few years"...
- Details behind a new ETF, the Claymore/Zacks Sector Rotation ETF (XRO), that is designed to chase hot sectors...
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Moviegoers zap cellphone abusers...unfortunately, the reality of the situation is much less exciting than the title...moviegoers will get a little device that allows them to call over an usher...I was hoping they were actually giving out "mini-Tasers" that would allow you to actually "zap" the cell phone offenders...the entertainment value of that alone might actually make it worth the money to start going to the movies again...maybe...
