The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not E. coli outbreak at Taco Bell or a Housing Bottom

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • An E. coli outbreak out Taco Bell, which is a division of YUM Brands (YUM)...
  • Comments from Toll Brothers (TOL) that the "housing market and home building may be near a bottom"...
  • A lowered subscriber forecast from Sirius Satellite Radio (SIRI) that has the stock under pressure...
  • This morning's productivity figures that shows inflation pressures "from higher wages are not building as fast as previously thought"...
  • A recap of Pfizer's (PFE) failed drug and the expectation that they will need to turn to acquisitions to bolster their pipeline...
  • A note about how hedge funds have jumped into options on the iShares Russell 2000 Index Fund (IWM)..
  • Optimism on the health-care sector as it is argued that pharmaceutical ETFs, Teva Pharmaceutical (TEVA), Barr Pharmaceuticals (BRL), and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) all make good alternatives to Pfizer (PFE)...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this article which says "officials installed advertisements in several San Francisco bus shelters on Monday that give off the scent of freshly baked cookies"...this is apparently part of an effort to boost milk sales...seriously???...marketers have now moved into the realm of an open assault on our noses?...I am scared where this is going to lead...
