The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Unemployment Report or Bank of America

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • Details on the stronger-than-expected November nonfarm payrolls report that showed an increase of 132,000 jobs...the unemployment rate showed an expected increase to 4.5 percent from 4.4 percent....
  • Chatter that Bank of America (BAC) may be looking to buy Barclays (BCS)...
  • Expectations about what the jobs number may mean for next week's FOMC meeting...
  • A lower-than-expected sales forecast from Xilinx Inc (XLNX)...
  • The launch of Google's (GOOG) radio advertising system...
  • A look into Walt Disney's (DIS) decision to feature Mel Gibson as part of the marketing campaign for their new movie "Apocalypto"...
  • A $14.5 million settlement by Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) to put its spying case behind it...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Holiday shoppers keep buying during fire...as the title alludes to, an electrical fire in a store wasn't enough to deter shoppers...

"Even though there was heavy smoke in there, they all wanted to stay and shop. We even had to put people at the door to keep people from coming in..."
In the past I commented on the fact that consumers have been more than willing to keep spending money but I never thought they would do it in the face of bodily harm!!!...
