The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Inflation Concerns, Oracle Acquisition or Icahn's Motorola Purchase

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • Concerns about inflation as "the core PCE deflator, came in at an annual increase of 2.3 percent"...this is said to be higher than what Fed officials are comfortable with...
  • An acquisition by Oracle Corp. (ORCL)...Oracle is buying Hyperion Solutions (HYSL) for $52 a share...
  • Word that Carl Icahn is "planning to acquire between $120 and $500 million of Motorola's (MOT) outstanding stock"...MOT shares a showing a slight gain in pre-open action...
  • A "Greenspan vs. Bernanke" article that contrasts Greenspan's comments that the "economy could stumble into a recession by yearend" against some "soothing words" from Helicopter Ben....
  • Mild optimism on this week's decline as it is said "a stronger case can be made that Feb. 27 will turn out to be more of a tremor than an earthquake"...
  • Questions about "whether technological problems contributed to the decline in the Dow Jones Industrial Average during Tuesday's market plunge"...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - TV host charged for attacking plane staff...according to the article, a French television personality was charged "violent offences against persons exercising a public duty, sexual assault and interfering with air traffic"...it would appear that the flight was able to continue as he was "forcibly restrained" and "tied to his seat"...

Not sure which way to go with with this one...too many easy jokes...
