The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not PPI Report, Earnings from GE or Apple's OS Delay

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • The PPI report...the overall Produce Price Index (PPI) showed an increase of 1% which was higher than expected...the "core" rate was unchanged, which was below expectations...stock futures moved higher after the release...the S&Ps are now trading two points above fair value...
  • Inline earnings from General Electric (GE)...
  • A look into what the firing of Don Imus could mean to shares of CBS (CBS)...
  • A delay of Apple's (AAPL) new operating system, Leopard, which is said to be "particularly embarrassing...because it had previously poked fun at Microsoft's struggles to complete its Vista operating system"...
  • Chatter that Sallie Mae (SLM) may "be bought out by private equity in what could be a deal for more than $20 billion"...
  • The vote by an FDA panel to not approve Merck's (MRK) painkiller Arcoxia....

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Rogue seal menacing man, beast in Calif....according to the article, "Nibbles the elephant seal is defying his tame nickname by killing smaller seals, menacing a kayaker and chomping on a surfer and a dog on the northern California coast"...

Great, now I have to add elephant seals to the growing list of those participating in the looming animal uprising...
