The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Alcan Rejection, Target Earnings or 'Flapped' Consumers
Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- Word that Alcan's (AL) board of directors urged shareholders to reject Alcoa's (AA) bid ...
- Better-than-expected earnings from Target (TGT)...
- The acquisition of Stride Rite Corp. (SRR) by Payless Shoe (PSS)...
- A report that says - "The usually unflappable U.S. consumer is being pinched by high gasoline prices, and that's likely to slow economic growth this summer"...
- Comments on the pay structure and management fees at hedge funds...
- A look into the "downside to full disclosure" for drug companies...
- Commentary from Todd Harrison who says "when the smartest money in Asia is raising red flags, it behooves us all to respect the risk"...
- Comments on the "subprime mortgage meltdown" as it is said that "Many mortgage lenders expected a subprime meltdown, but not one that came so fast and strong"...(note - I always thought the term "meltdown", by definition, referred to something fast and violent??? - how do you "expect" a "meltdown" but then be "surprised"???)
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Viagra may aid jet-lagged travelers, study shows...according to the article, "The male impotence drug Viagra may be useful for treating jet lag as well"...the article did hint to an issue of finding the correct dosing amount as too much leads to "a certain side effect"...if you know what Viagra is primarily used for then you can guess that "certain side effect"...
Hmmm...on the bright side, you don't have jet lag...on the downside you now have...well...uh...a "certain side effect"...
For those looking for something a little less disturbing, my colleague Joe "Area 51" Hargett likes this Death-Star-esque design...
