The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not aQuantive Acquisition, GE Plastics Sell, or China

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • The acquisition of aQuantive (AQNT) by Microsoft (MSFT) for 66.50 per share - an 85% premium...(note - more on aQuantive can be found in my post below...)
  • Speculation that General Electric (GE) is close to selling their plastics unit...
  • The actions by China to widen the yuan trading band and bump rates...
  • A look into the World Bank after Paul Wolfowitz...
  • Comments from IBM about their expectations...Big Blue said "earnings may grow to about $11 per share in 2010, fueled by stock buybacks, increased profitability, spending on new initiatives and acquisitions"...
  • A recap of Ben Bernanke's comments yesterday...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Lincoln came near death from smallpox: researchers... this just in - "Abraham Lincoln may have come closer than previously realized to dying from smallpox shortly after delivering his Gettysburg Address"...

This startling news left my heart pounding until a check of the White House's site confirmed that Former President Lincoln did in fact already die and is still believed to be deceased.

On second thought, perhaps this story - "Web site" baffles Internet terrorism trial judge should be the biggest news...according to the article, a "British judge admitted on Wednesday he was struggling to cope with basic terms like 'Web site' in the trial of three men accused of inciting terrorism via the Internet"...perhaps Al Gore could sit down with the judge and give him a primer?
