The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Lowe's Earnings, Pfizer Shakeup, or Alltel Acquired

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • Earnings from Lowe's (LOW)...the home improvement retailer reported lower-than-expected earnings of 48 cents a share, missing estimates by a penny, and reduced their forecast for the year...
  • A management shakeup at Pfizer (PFE)...both the chief financial officer and the global research-and-development president will be leaving...
  • Word that Alltel (AT) is the latest firm to be swallowed by private-investment firms...
  • A report that even after being adjusted for inflation, gasoline prices are at record highs, topping the 1981 record...
  • This piece which offers "7 ways to invest in the oil boom"...
  • Some skepticism on hotel stocks as it is said that "share prices are trading at or near the top of the cycle"...
  • A look into the "ado" about Apple's (APPL) new iPhone...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - French 'Spiderman' scales building in Berlin...according to the article, "Alain Robert, nicknamed the French Spiderman, scaled a building in the commercial heart of the German capital on Friday without safety gear"...it is noted that he has "scaled more than 50 buildings, including the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Empire State Building in New York and the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur"...I have said this before and I will say it again - let's see - we have a situation where a man repeatedly makes unauthorized climbs without the use of tools or safety devices...uh - don't we know how this is going end? The question is, will it be a "surprise"?
