The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Microsoft Going After Yahoo, Reuters Bid, or Jobs Report
Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- Reports that Microsoft (MSFT) has renewed its interest in getting together with Yahoo (YHOO)...shares of YHOO are indicated up nearly 15 percent in pre-open action...
- Data on the economy as the monthly employment report came in slightly weaker than expected...
- A takeover bid for Reuters (RTRSY)...
- Earnings from Starbucks (SBUX)...the company posted inline results, backed their forecast for the year and authorized a buyback of 25 million shares...the shares, however, don't seem to be showing much lift in pre-open action...(see my comments from yesterday for more on the stock)...
- An argument that Dell (DELL) should buy RadioShack (RSH)...
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Time to choose world's stupidest pop lyric...it would appear that the "hunt is on for the stupidest pop lyric ever written" as a BBC Radio DJ has "compiled a list for listeners to vote on"...in the running are groups like Oasis and Duran Duran (don't tell my colleague Beth Gaston Moon that one!!!)...
On the bright side, at least they are focused on pop lyrics and not blogs. I can only imagine the lowlights that could be pulled from this space...
On second thought, perhaps that would be a good learning experience for me. Take a minute to think about it and drop me a line with your vote. The "best" comment (as determined by me) will receive an award...or a prize...or something...
