The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Dow Jones Speculation or General Motors Upgrade
Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- Speculation that Rupert Murdoch's News Corp (NWS) is close to getting the Bancroft family to sign off on a Dow Jones (DJ) deal...
- The upgrade of General Motors (GM)...the shares were "upgraded to buy from neutral at Goldman Sachs, which said it was making a 'tactical trading call'"...
- A drop in oil "after Nigerian unions ended a strike that had threatened to disrupt oil exports"...
- A look into the high-end of the cell phone market as Apple's (APPL) iPhone hits the streets...
- Continued management shakeups at Yahoo (YHOO)...last week Jerry Yang replaced Terry Semel as CEO and now YHOO's "longtime chief sales officer, is leaving amid a reorganization of Yahoo's sales team"...
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Japan's all-star speed eater suffers professional injury...the "sport" of competitive eating was dealt a set back as one of the "sports" "superstars", Takeru Kobayashi, "suffered a severe jaw injury due to his rigorous training"...Kobayashi is one of the best known "competitive eaters" and "founded the United Food Fighters Organisation in hopes of making people take competitive eating seriously as a sport"...
For those disappointed about the sport's setback, keep a stiff upper lip - at least we still have the sport of lawn mower racing...
