The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Texas Instruments, AT&T, McDonald's or Google
Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- A disappointing earnings report from Texas Instruments (TXN)...the chip maker reported in-line earnings but its comments didn't inspire the Street...
- Earnings from AT&T Inc. (T)...
- Earnings from McDonald's (MCD)...
- A dose of skepticism on Google (GOOG) as it is said "don't put it in the wealth-creation pantheon quite yet. And please don't buy it at today's price"...
- A look into the action of financial stocks and what is may mean for the market...
- A new HD DVR from TiVo (TIVO)...
- Financing problems as General Motors (GM) tries to sell its Allison Transmission unit...
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Wayward bull pummels veterinarian...according to the article, a "1,800-pound bull charged the veterinarian, Dr. Eric Wynn, knocked him to the floor of a barn and then used its head to repeatedly pummel the veterinarian" who "suffered cuts and bruises but didn't require medical treatment"...
As regular readers of this space are well aware, it takes a special twist in a story to make it the biggest news of the day. And since there isn't anything too surprising about a bull charging someone, you might wonder why this story earns special distinction. Well, it has to do with this quote -
- "Wynn had just finished the procedure and released the bull to a holding pen when he was distracted by a telephone call. When he turned to take the call, the bull doubled back through a narrow fenced 'alleyway' and slammed into Wynn from behind."
He was "distracted" by a phone call?!?!?!? Let's weigh the options here - make sure very large, potentially irritated bull is secured OR miss a phone call...
This whole thing could have been avoid if only there was a device that could answer the phone for you and take message...
