The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Whole Foods Market CEO, Motorola, or Wal-Mart

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • The bizarre story of how the CEO of Whole Foods Market (WMFI), John P. Mackey, used a pseudonym to talk up his company and bash Wild Oats Markets on message boards...
  • An earnings warning from Motorola (MOT)...
  • Word that Alcan (AL) agreed to be acquired by Rio Tinto (RTP)...
  • Better-than-expected same-store sales from Wal-Mart Stores (WMT)...
  • Better-than-expected earnings from Genentech (DNA)...
  • Disappointing study results for Erbitux, the cancer drug from Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY) and ImClone Systems (IMCL)...
  • A settlement by AOL in regard to how it handled customers who tried (stress "tried") to leave...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is, courtesy of my colleague Mark "the tackler" Fightmaster, this - Man injured in Pamplona running of bulls...according to the article, "a 31-year-old Spaniard, was treated for a horn wound in the left buttock after one of the bulls tossed him in the air and then pinned him on the ground just seconds before the end of the run"...

Now, I know what you are thinking - "Nick - how is it any shock that a guy who put himself in front of a herd of running bulls gets injured"??? Well, it has to do with something Mark noted. Specifically, the first nine words of the article...

"One person was gored from behind by a bull..."
Uhm, that is just downright scary...
