The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Bernanke, Sears, Ciena, the GDP, A New iPod, or Mozilo
Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- The suggestion [subscription required] that Ben Bernanke may not rush to save the stock market...[note - here is a summary of the article for those who don't have a WSJ subscription...]
- Earnings from Ciena Corp. (CIEN)...
- Earnings from Sears Holdings Corp. (SHLD)...
- An inline GDP report...
- A recap of yesterday's rally and Ben Bernanke's comment "that the central bank was 'prepared to act as needed'"...
- An interesting perspective from Herb Greenberg about Bernanke's letter to Sen. Charles Schumer...
- The chatter about a new
iPhone- oh wait, not the other "i"thing...a new iPod from Apple (APPL)... - A look into comments from Angelo Mozilo, the CEO of Countrywide Financial (CFC), who is at the center of the mortgage woes...
- The continued management shakeup at Yahoo (YHOO)...
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Colo. school bans tag on its playground...according to the article, "An elementary school has banned tag on its playground after some children complained they were harassed or chased against their will"..."In 2005, two elementary schools in the nearby Falcon School District did away with tag and similar games in favor of alternatives with less physical contact"...
Finally - we are down to tackling the most dangerous risks to this nation's future. Finally someone has the foresight to push past the usual babble about drugs and predators and crime to focus on the root problems. I know you may find this hard to believe after seeing my picture but I was not an athlete. Tag was a tough game for me as I wasn't as fast as the other kids. Oh if I could only tell you how many nights I woke up screaming "I can't catch them! Someone please make it stop" you would understand the pain that is the game of tag. But no more! Now we will be free... [Note - at this point in the rant my mind is awash with the classic speech by John Belushi (a.k.a Bluto Blutarsky) in Animal House - "Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! "...Actually, I think Bluto makes a more coherent point than me...
Vulgar Language warning - this is the unedited version so you might not want to blast this at work...
