The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Insider Buying, Google's CFO, State Street, or FOMC
Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- A report that says insider buying has surged...
- Word that Google's (GOOG) CFO, George Reyes, is planning on retiring...
- Some concerns that Home Depot's (HD) sale of its construction supply business means it "is dumping its best hope for future growth"...
- Upbeat comments from Big Lots Inc. (BIG)...
- Concerns about State Street Corp.'s (STT) exposure to asset-backed commercial paper conduits...
- A recap of yesterday's FOMC minutes that says - "Bernanke & Co. didn't appear too worried about the credit crunch at their Aug. 7 meeting but said they were ready to cut rates, if needed"...
- Optimism on oil drillers....
- Earnings from Borders Group (BGP)...
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Prison-yard pot plagues Japanese lockup...according to the article, "A Japanese prison is scrambling to eradicate marijuana plants that keep sprouting up on its exercise ground"...
However, you might be tempted to think that this is a little "inmate gardening" but "experts concluded the marijuana seeds were inadvertently brought in with the soil used for the exercise ground"...
Wow - this may be the first prison that drug dealers actually try to break into...
