The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not BNP Paribas, Retail Sales, or J&J Suing the Red Cross

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • Continued fallout from the subprime mortgage sector as French bank BNP Paribas said it was unable to determine the value of three of its funds...
  • Details on some of the retail sales figures...
  • More details on some of the retail sales figures...
  • Word that Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) is suing the American Red Cross over the "red cross" symbol...
  • A look at the market and Bernanke's reaction...or lack thereof...
  • Recommended stocks for a choppy market...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Sexually suspect panda gives birth to twins...according to the article, "A panda once believed to be male and sent to Japan to breed with a female without success gave birth to twin cubs this week"...The panda was "was believed to be male" but eventually the truth was discovered when "experts decided to turn to artificial insemination, leading to the discovery that Jinzhu had no penis"...

I admit that I don't know everything there is to know (or anything really) about pandas and animal breeding but I would have thought one of the first steps would be to check for a...well you know...before declaring an animal a male. The phrase "leading to the discovery" seems to indicate that isn't considered a "first step"???
