The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Countrywide Comments, ECB Liquidity, or NVIDIA
Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- An SEC filing from Countrywide Financial Corp., (CFC) that said "'unprecedented' poor conditions in the secondary-mortgage market are causing it to retain a greater proportion of mortgage loans than it sells"...
- Moves by the European Central Bank (ECB), the Bank of Japan and the Reserve Bank of Australia to inject liquidity into the system...
- Chatter of an "emergency Fed rate cut"...
- A report that says subprime woes are not impacting global oil demand...
- Earnings from NVIDIA (NVDA) that beat expectations but were greeted with a downgrade...
- Some reactions to the market "meltdown"...
- Rumors about what hedge funds may be in trouble...
- DRM-free downloads from Vivendi's Universal Music Group...
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Teen burned after lighting fire near gas...according to the article, "An 18-year-old man was severely burned Thursday after he lit a flame while trying to steal gasoline from a riding lawnmower"...
Now, before we go on, I think it is fair to say that by the time you are 18 years old, you should understand the concept that gasoline burns and is volatile. With that in mind, the following three phrases should (in theory) never appear in print, in this order...
- "decided they needed more light"
- "ignited burning materials"
- "gasoline then exploded"
Uhg...this is as bad as that teen who was hurt while whacking bullets with hammer...
