The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Dollar Pressure, Oil High, Anemia Drugs, or Recession Chatter

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • Pressure against the dollar as it sinks to a new low against the euro...
  • The push by oil to a new high...
  • A reprieve from new restrictions on anemia drugs produced by Amgen (AMGN) and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ)...
  • An update from Texas Instruments (TXN)...it is said the company "tightened its third-quarter financial targets, matching Wall Street expectations"...
  • Concerns that we are already in a recession...
  • Optimism on storage stocks with EMC (EMC) and Western Digital (WDC) singled out...
  • A look into the difficulties behind closing the deal on the Sirius Satellite Radio (SIRI)and XM Satellite Radio (XMSR) merger...
  • A move by Yahoo (YHOO) to open up its code to let developers create applications and widgets...
  • A move [subscription required] by homebuilders to offer smaller floor plans in order to entice buyers...
  • Claims [subscription required] that EMC is biased against women...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Senior fights off iron-wielding man...according to the article, "A tire iron-wielding man who police said was looking to mug a senior citizen probably thought he had found an easy target — that is, until the 74-year-old fought back"...Bruce Ferraro disarmed his would-be mugger and chased him away...

My first reaction was "way to go!!!"...and then I remember Monday's story where we saw that a burglar was beaten and de-clothed by 69-year-old man and began to see a trend...it like an ederly version of Death Wish with Charles Bronson...

Of course, it is only a matter of time before the violence escalates and this elderly vigilante squad just turns into a marauding street gang...everyone will eventually learn it is not safe to travel the streets before sun down...
