The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Citigroup, NutriSystem, SunPower, Merrill Lynch or Chip Gloom

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • Chatter of leveraged-loan talks between Citigroup (C) and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts...
  • A warning from NutriSystem (NTRI)...
  • A look into solar power with SunPower (SPWR) highlighted...
  • A management shakeup at Merrill Lynch (MER)...
  • Some skepticism on semis as it is said - "Fierce competition, price declines, and overcapacity concerns are creating bleak prospects for the chipmaking giants"...
  • Expectations that M&A activity will pick up...
  • Upbeat comments from Marriott International (MAR)...
  • Backlash against the subprime "bailout"...
  • Option activity [subscription required] in Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) amid possible takeover chatter...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Drugs hidden in Mr. Potato Head toy...according to the article, "Customs officers discovered nearly 10.5 ounces of ecstasy tablets hidden inside a Mr. Potato Head toy sent to Australia from Ireland"...

Say it isn't so! Mr. Potato Head a junkie? I know they have a Mr. Potato Head Pirate, Star Wars Darth Tater, and even a Firefighter Spud but I don't see a "druggy" spud? Perhaps they can create a new Mr. Potato Head with rotten teeth, bloodshot eyes, and a foul odor to help kids see the dangers of drugs?

On second thought, I guess that doesn't make a very good gift for children...
