The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not China Mobile, E-Trade Financial, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or the Gold Standard
Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- A look into Black Friday and Cyber Monday...
- Another take on retail sales...
- A look into China Mobile Ltd. (CHL)...
- Renewed takeover chatter on E-Trade Financial Corp. (ETFC)...the company's shares rallied nearly 25% on Friday amid "a report the online brokerage is in talks to sell itself or part of its business"...
- A look into small-caps as it is said "The cheapest small-cap stocks in four years are luring equity investors battered by the biggest monthly losses since 2002"...
- Talk of a "whole percentage point" rate cut by the Fed...[note - my colleague Richard Sparks is also quoted in the article]...
- A call for the return of the gold standard to save the dollar...
- Tips for Cyber Monday shopping...
- Word that the Hollywood writers' strike has now gone virtual...
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest new is this trio -
- Patriotism law seeks to halt cars for anthem - "A proposed new law to boost patriotism in Thailand would be "chaotic" because it would require motorists to stop when the national anthem is played twice a day"...
- 101-year-old Briton poses topless for calendar - "A 101-year-old British pensioner has posed topless for a nude calendar to raise money for a local football team"...
- Mich. teen gets stuck in chimney - "A teenager worried about coming in past curfew did his best Santa Claus and headed down the chimney"...
So...we have - a proposal to stop traffic when the national anthem plays, posing topless for a children's team, and someone who missed the "round-peg-square-hole" lesson in grade school.
Isn't there a quote about common sense not being so common?
