The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Merck, Fed Plan, PPI, Costco Wholesale, or Lehman Brothers

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • PPI data which showed "Prices paid to U.S. producers climbed at the fastest pace in 34 years in November, pushed up by surging costs for fuel"...
  • A vaccine recall from Merck (MRK)...one million doses of a vaccine that "protects against meningitis" are being recalled due to "contamination risks"
  • A look into some of the concerns about the "Fed bailout"...
  • Retail sales for November which showed sales "increased twice as much as forecast in November, easing concern near- record fuel prices and falling home values would trip up consumers"...
  • Earnings from Lehman Brothers Holdings (LEH)...
  • Earnings from Costco Wholesale Corp (COST)...
  • Earnings from Retailer Jos. A. Bank. Clothiers (JOSB)...
  • Some skepticism on going "green"...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - 'Danger: Avoid Death' contest winner...which highlights the "11th annual 'Wacky Warning Label Contest,' sponsored by Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch"...

Here are the highlights of this story that showcase the lowlights of warning labels...

  • "a warning label on a small tractor: 'Danger: Avoid Death'"
  • "a label they found on an iron-on T-shirt transfer that warns: 'Do not iron while wearing shirt'"
  • "label on a baby stroller featuring a small storage pouch that warns: 'Do not put child in bag'"

Here is my thought - if someone actually needs to warned of these things, I am willing to bet they can't read...
