The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not the Dow or the GDP Revision

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • The continuing, incessant, unremitting, unrelenting, and irrelevant chatter and hype about the new high in the Dow...
  • News that Tracinda, Kirk Kerkorian's group, is looking to increase its stake in General Motors (GM)...
  • A lower-than-expected GDP revision which hit the wires just before stock futures were knocked lower...
  • Optimism [subscription required] on Texas Instruments (TXN) as it is said "in a chip market worried about oversupply and slowing growth, TI may have the goods to take share in several areas, including chips that power cellphones and analog chips that power everything from personal computers to flat-panel television sets..."
  • Word that Hewlett-Packard's (HPQ) general counsel has resigned amid the spying scandal...
  • Optimism [subscription required] on Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) as it is noted that "[d]espite an embarrassing spying scandal that has tarnished Hewlett-Packard Co.'s boardroom, Wall Street is taking a shine to the giant technology company's stock..."

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is the coup in Thailand where "coup leaders have banned go-go girls from dancing near tanks"...the article notes "People should differentiate between entertainment and seriousness. A coup is not entertaining" but you know it is only a matter of time before this is turned into a reality TV show...
