The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Microsoft Ruling, Lowe's Earnings, or Sexy Billboards

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • A court decision against Microsoft (MSFT) as it is decided that the firm "infringed audio patents held by Alcatel-Lucent and should pay $1.52 billion in damages"...
  • Earnings from Lowe's Cos. (LOW)...the home improvement firm reported earnings of 40 cents...analysts were expecting 37 cents...
  • Optimism on Lamar Advertising (LAMR) and Clear Channel Outdoor (CCO) as it said "billboards are sexy" and "analysts say that both stocks still look attractive considering how strong the industry's fundamentals are"...
  • A decision by the Bush administration "that there was no need for greater government oversight of the rapidly growing hedge fund industry and other private investment groups to protect the nation's financial system"...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Hunting chimps may change view of human evolution...according to the article "Chimpanzees have been seen using spears to hunt"...

Now maybe it is just the fact that I spent a chunk of Monday watching "Planet of the Apes" on the History channel but the quote below really freaks me out:

"The chimps choose a branch, strip it of leaves and twigs, trim it down to a stable size and then chew the ends to a point. Then they use it to stab into holes where bush babies might be sleeping"
Cornelius???

Let's just hope the chimpanzees don't align themselves with the birds and pigs...
