The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Shanghai Plunge or Weak Durable Goods Report

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • A plunge in the Shanghai Composite Index...the day after hitting a new high, the index slid nearly nine percent "amid fears that authorities would crack down on speculation"...this volatility appears to be having a ripple effect on other markets and helping to add pressure on US stock futures...
  • An attack on a U.S. military base in Afghanistan...Vice President Dick Cheney was visiting the base and it is said that said the VP was the target...
  • A weaker-than-expected durable goods report...new orders dropped 7.8% compared to the 5.5% drop that was expected by some...
  • A call for increased volatility as Standard & Poor's says the " indexes could be in for a major move"...
  • A look into "Strip-club stocks"...(note - yes, that is really what the article is about - the stocks...)

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Military signal blocks garage remotes...according to the article "neighbors of the Marine base here have been reduced to [life without garage door openers] after a strong radio signal coming from the facility began neutralizing remote-control openers"...it is "claimed" that the interference is from a communication system but I wonder it is really part of some new secret mega-weapon...consider this - what if they are testing a system that could be capable of disabling all remotes?

What enemy force could hold out once you disable their TV access? I don't know if my TV even has "controls" on it. And there is no way I could go back to the old cable boxes that has a wire running from the giant box of buttons...scary stuff...very scary stuff...I hope the military knows what it is doing...
