The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Super Bowl Ads, Wal-Mart Growth or Dell Bonus Reduction
Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- House cleaning by Michael Dell as he slashes bonuses and cuts back on the number of managers...
- Comparable-store sales from Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) that is "putting it on track to deliver the lowest annual same-store sales growth in more than 25 years"...
- Disappointment with the Super Bowl ads...
- A look into the housing debate a USA TODAY survey shows "Only 9% of economists say the housing decline ended in 2006...Another 42% said the downturn will end in the first half of the year, and 45% said housing will bottom out in the second half."...
- Hope that Project Panama will help Yahoo (YHOO) "close the wide gap with Google in the race for search advertising dollars"...
- Word that Carl Icahn is bidding on Lear Corp (LEA)...
- A new chapter in the "Sith Lord saga" as Overstock.com (OSTK) has "sued at least 10 major U.S. brokerages"...
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Supernatural rodent predicts early spring for US...according to the article - "Punxsutawney Phil, a chubby rodent with supposed powers of prognostication, has been dragged from his burrow in Pennsylvania and predicted an early spring in the United States"...wow - I didn't realize it was both an FOMC week as well as the Groundhog event - that guy in the top hat was busy...
