The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not CPI, Adobe Earnings, or the Foreclosure Crisis

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • The CPI report which, as I just discussed, showed the overall CPI just above expectations at 0.7% while the "core" CPI registered just below expectations at 0.1%...
  • The "squeeze" being put on consumers, and companies, by higher interest rates...
  • Earnings from Adobe Systems (ADBE)...
  • A question about whether the foreclosure "crisis" is "real"...
  • A look into funds that focus on renewable energy...
  • The "end" of "supercheap capital"...
  • A look into what is, and what is not, being done to "prevent unsafe products from reaching store shelves in the U.S."...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Space walk set amid space station computer woes...according to the article "Spacewalking astronauts aim to repair a damaged thermal blanket on the space shuttle Atlantis on Friday as U.S. and Russian controllers struggle with a worrying computer failure on the International Space Station"...

In other words, everything appears to be falling apart. I think it is only a matter of time before they need to stuff Bob Vila into a spacesuit and launch him up there. I wonder if any of the NASA directors have tried writing in to Ask This Old House. I love that show and I can't wait for the episode where they show Tom Silva hammering some sort of composite decking to the outside of the shuttle...I hear that decking can hold up to just about anything...
