The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Earnings from Yahoo, Intel, Pfizer or CPI and Housing Data

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • A disappointing earnings report from Yahoo (YHOO)...
  • A disappointing earnings report from Intel (INTC)...
  • A disappointing earnings report from Pfizer (PFE)...
  • Earnings from JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM)...
  • Data on the CPI..."consumer prices increased a moderate 0.2% in June, with falling energy prices offsetting rising food prices"...
  • Data on housing...the "number of new projects home builders broke ground on rose last month but applications for new developments - a key measure of builder confidence - slumped"...
  • Reports that say two subprime-related hedge funds from Bear Stearns (BSC) are "worth nearly nothing"...
  • Word of a probe at Whole Foods Markets (WFMI) related to CEO John Mackey's message board postings...
  • Word of a deal between the board of Dow Jones (DJ) and Rupert Murdoch's News Corp (NWS)..."The final decision will be made by Dow Jones's fractious controlling family, the Bancrofts"...

Before you read on, I have to warn you that today's biggest story is disturbing and disgusting. My only reason for featuring it is that it is something that can happen so you might want to be aware of the possibility...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Larvae take up residence on man's head...while the title might lead to believe the man had bugs living "on" his head, that is somewhat misleading...according to the article, "A doctor found five active bot fly larvae living beneath the skin"...at first it was "thought the strange, bleeding bumps on Aaron Dallas' head might be from gnat bites or shingles. Then the bumps started moving"... it is believed the man came in contact the bot fly after a trip to Belize...a few other select quotes from the article include...

  • "I could hear them. I actually thought I was going crazy"
  • "I'd put my hand back there and feel them moving"
  • "Bot fly infections are not uncommon in parts of Central and South America"

Are you freaking kidding me? I thought this was the type of thing they talk about in movies but didn't really happen. I have a bad feeling I am going to be freaked out by any bug I see for the next few days. I live no where near Central or South America but still - larvae under your skin? It is like that leech scene in Stand by Me...

I still can't watch that without feeling stick to my stomach...
