The! Biggest! News! of! the! Day! - Not Gold Stock Skepticism, Alibaba and Yahoo, Under Armour Earnings, or LDK Solar Probe

Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • Earnings from Procter & Gamble (PG)...
  • An argument [subscription required] that the Fed may not cut rates tomorrow...
  • Comments from Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson that - "We haven't hit the bottom yet in housing"...
  • Earnings from Under Armour (UA)...
  • A look at how the hype surrounding the IPO of Alibaba Group may be fueling the run in Yahoo (YHOO)...
  • An investigation by the audit committee at LDK Solar Co. (LDK)...[note - I touched on LDK yesterday...]
  • Upbeat comments on the price of gold from Credit Suisse...
  • Skepticism on gold stocks as it is said - "The price of gold may continue heading skyward but analysts say investors need to tread cautiously if thinking of adding mining stocks to their portfolio"...
  • Expectations [subscription required] that Google (GOOG) "is close to unveiling its long-planned strategy to shake up the wireless market" with its "gPhone"...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Couple dead serious about selling house...according to the article, a couple is "offering anyone who buys their home a full refund when they die"...it is also said that "Some area homeowners have lowered prices, offered free trips and tried a variety of other gimmicks"...

I can't say that story makes me feel warm-and-fuzzy about the housing market. Of course, it isn't as concerning as this - Woman escapes from German detention centre in a suitcase - where guards noted the suitcase "was particularly heavy but failed to search it"...
